Violence Media

Great lecture today on Violence Media. Never thought of this ever over all the years that I've been watching all sorts of media. I guess Bill said it true that we are so indulged in such sort of stuff, that we don't even feel any sort of nasty feelings while watching it. The youth today has almost drifted away from his morals and they love to see all these massacres and brutalness. Violent films, video games, music etc. are major factors in making a person outrageous, irritable and socially outcast.
Now coming on to my movie part( I love this!!). The most brutal movie that i've seen so far is Ninja's Assasin. I literally got that nauseating feeling  after watching all the sword cuttings, blood and the vintage ninja actions.

And the movie which exhibits sheer brutalness is Saw. Even though I have seen only its first part and didn't have any more courage left to watch the other parts too!

I feel there's no point in creating such movies as they only convey a very false message to the society. Such psychic scenes only create moral panic and fear in the audiences, which sometimes leaves them depressed for quite a while. I feel strict laws should be enforced to curb this rising trend of creating such forms of media.

Science Fiction

This time we got science fiction! Very curious topic as all of us want to imagine and watch the unusual and extraordinary stuff! I am really quite bored watching the same earthly species like humans, animals, vegetation etc!!
Coming to the science fiction movies, there are hundreds of marvelous sci-fi movies like Aliens, Superman, Back to the Future, E.T. , Ironman, Hulk, Fantastic Four and the list goes on! But the one that i loved so far is "Avatar". I feel James Cameron (my Guru) gave us the opportunity of witnessing something that we all only imagined in our dreams.

He had scripted the whole movie in 1996, but because the technological advancement was not upto that level, he waited for the appropriate time to start work . The effects in the movie were breathtaking and hence the movie became one of the biggest success in Hollywood! Everything in the movie was fully CGI and the story demonstrated the greediness of humans and the extent to which they could go to satisfy their needs.
Directors came up with some great ideas trying to show the appropriate effects in their sci-fi movies in the earlier years. The most awesome being the ones in Star Wars of which Danny gave us the reference in the seminar.

Intertextuality!

Well this time its intertextuality! I'm writing this a bit late because i was unable to gind some relevant examples. But now that I do have them, lets get started!!
I interpret the meaning of intertextuality as using a reference from any famous piece of work into other media such as films, TV shows etc. in order to induce either humor or some very deep meaning!

Well my basic focus will be media for intertextuality.Intertextuality occurs frequently in popular media such as television shows, movies, novels and even interactive video games. In these cases, intertextuality is often used to provide depth to the fictional reality portrayed in the medium, such as characters in one television show mentioning characters from another. Some notable examples of intertexuality include the animated series FuturamaFamily Guy, and The Simpsons, which are almost entirely dependent on intertextual references as a source of humor.

Well in this Simpson's trying to use reference from 'A Clockwork Orange'. The eye and the hat doing the basic trick!
I also feel that the costumes wore by soldiers in Star Wars somehow reminds me of the famous ancient Samurai.

So as rightfully said by Graham Allen ‘The fundamental concept of intertextuality is that no text, much as it might like to appear so, is original and unique-in-itself; rather it is a tissue of inevitable, and to an extent unwitting, references to and quotations from other texts.'
